6 Ways To Increase Your Energy

Today’s take is going to be all about energy. The topic more and more is coming up on the training floor. Here are some ways that we are helping people in the gym increase their energy. I hope this serves you!

Beat down, mid-week, lack of sleep slumps.

We can beat it with this ONE THING!

Just kidding…

It takes a sum of things, like most things in life it’s never one and done, over and out.

The good news… you can increase your energy with a few cool tricks and heads-up play.

  1. Lighten The Load My Friend

Breatheeeee

Who doesn’t get wound up from time to time? It’s a part of life, work, and stress, trust me, I feel you. We can, however, control the stress that does come into our life.

How do we handle this inside the gym? We actually do breathing exercises. That wasn’t a sarcastic “breatheeeee” above. We actually do diaphragmatic breathing in our warm-ups and/or cool down to get people into a parasympathetic state of being, instead of sympathetic and worried. Check it out here to see how it’s done!

  1. Eat For Energy

Here’s the thing, foods can alter how you feel, which can alter how you treat people. Want to make more friends?! Eat healthier! Kidding, but not really….

Food low on the glycemic index such as whole grains, veggies, nuts, and healthy oils can give you a little boost throughout your day. On the other side of the plate are your high carb options which can give you that little boost also, but then bring you further down in your energy level than you were before (no bueno).

Stick with your high protein, high-fat options when you feel down and out for some help to get you going.

  1. Use Caffeine As A Co-Pilot, Not As A Kamakazi

Have some structure with your caffeine. Same time, each day, like clockwork.  Having it when we “feel tired” is a recipe to feel more tired hours later. It’s a placeholder for your alertness and not a mover in the sense that you aren’t really “waking up” but holding off your tiredness until a little bit later. That doesn’t help you, your co-workers, or your future endless energy.

  1. Alcohol Is All-A-Haul

Alcohol is a depressant. We don’t like to hear it, because it’s a huge downer (no pun intended).

We’ll rather drink until the day is gone, wake up all giggly and happy, never worry about a night again and off we go with our day!

Expect that NEVER happens. You drink, you dive. Energy dive that is. Expect it coming my friends. I don’t make the rules. We have to pay to play and your energy is what will get in the way. Know when you have to hold up if you have a big few days ahead and know when you can let it rip if you have a couple of days to budget for some loss of energy. Either way, have a damn good time!

  1. Lack Of Fluids = Lots Of Fatigue

Won’t take too much of your time here…water is king. Drink it. Lots of it. If you don’t think you are drinking enough, you probably aren’t.

  1. The Final Push

Really, I’m over making this list and am going to hit it home right now. Chances are if you made it this far anyway, you are ready to make some changes in your own energy habits so here it is…

  • Add in another day or two of exercise a week. If you are looking for an energy boost, then hit the boost button…MOVE.
  • Deal with your anger. Anxiety eats up energy. Do you have something going on? Address it with someone or in a notebook where you can get it out of your head.
  • Walk for mini wins. Get some sun. Move around. What’s not to love here?
  • Drink water, control alcohol intake when you know you need energy, let it rip when you have a couple of days to spare and go easy on yourself.

Move the chains forward my friend,

Tim
