In this blog, we’re going to talk about how to handle temptations before they come up.
Goals are good, and plans for temptations are better. If we know the right action to take, we can control the right behavior for the outcome we want.
This model is called the GROW model. It narrows down goals, realistic behaviors, and options for you, and helps commit you to action.
When you find yourself knowing temptations are going to show their ugly faces during your goal-striving process, use this model to prepare for any obstacle to become an achievement.
- Goals
Let’s get things right from the start. Clarify it is what you want. Identify obstacles from the START so you can overcome them and FINISH them.
If there is one thing that is the Nothing Stronger Way it’s committing to constant action so you can deliver a gift to yourself that you know you deserve.
Wherever you may find yourself looking more write down that goal. Put it on your fridge, screenshot it and save it as a lock screen, or even set reminders on your phone every lunch so it pops up like a notification. Never lose sight of that goal.
Questions to consider:
a. What is my true goal?
b.How often do I remind myself of this goal?
c. Who can help me achieve this goal?
- Realistic
Here is one where we can miss the boat completely. Know your current situation. I’m 5’8 and decently athletic, but the Boston Celtics aren’t going to be knocking on my door anytime soon looking for a starting Center.
Probably best if I leave that goal behind.
That being said, I do believe physical and physique goals, as most of us do are more obtainable than is thought to believe. We have to get really blunt with what is going to be in our way.
If it’s a spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, or friend we need to be clear with them about the road we are going down and ask for their full support. If they don’t know how intent we are, we can’t blame them for the lack of our communication.
Questions to consider:
a. What are the core issues getting in my way?
b. What does it feel like to be stuck in the way you are now?
c. What is going to come up in the next few days and how will I overcome this obstacle?
- Options
Good news, if you got this far you know that goal and the obstacles and frankly, the hardest part is understanding and seeing those two things.
Now is the time to consider options and every option brings opportunity. Consider all the ways you can go about this goal. From surrounding yourself with like-minded people (say, I don’t know… a gym like Nothing Stronger where people want to stay active, fit, and look amazing) or a community that truly cares about your success.
Questions to consider:
a. What would happen if you do nothing?
b. If you had a magic wand, what would you do next?
c. What are some things you could be doing right now?
- Will Do
This is the commitment part.
A promise to yourself that only you can break. Not for the faint of heart and certainly not for the not-so-sure ones.
Where there is a will there is a win.
Let’s choose action items only that are going to move the ball down the field here.
Questions to consider:
a. How would you like to be held accountable for this commitment?
b. What does the opposite action look like if I am not doing this commitment?
Nothing Stronger Than You,
